info

Stephen Batt was born in Dunedin, New Zealand, and went to school in Auckland. He returned to Dunedin to attend Otago University, before travelling overseas, spending a number of years living in Canada, UK, Germany, USA and Australia.

After twenty years in the film and television industry working as a writer, Stephen took a sabbatical in France in 2011, where he seized the opportunity to get serious about his lifelong passion for painting. During his three years in France, he explored a variety of painting styles and media, and came to realise that his fascination with painting would not be satisfied by relegating it to a part-time hobby. So he resolved to work at it full time and, with a view to setting up a permanent studio, he returned to Noosa, Australia in October, 2014.

Stephen was selected as a finalist in the Brisbane Art Prize in 2015 and 2016, as well as in Sunshine Coast and Noosa Regional Art Competitions. His work hangs in private and commercial collections in France, Australia and New Zealand.
